This session will explore the importance of partnerships between families and early childhood teachers within the context of children’s learning.

We will investigate practical strategies for establishing two-way connections to involve families in the learning process. Participants will engage in facilitated conversations to consider the planning cycle in everyday practice and how they communicate and collaborate with families about children’s development and learning.

Session outcomes:

  • Understand the importance of relationships and partnerships with families and the connection to children’s learning.
  • Critically analyse and reflect on current programming and documentation practices in relation to family involvement.
  • Identify strategies to support the inclusion of families in the context of children’s learning.
  • Explore opportunities for families to be involved in children’s learning within the early childhood environment.
  • Explore two-way communication strategies.
  • Investigate collaborative partnerships in relation to Quality Area 6.
  • Examine the role of reflection in ongoing Quality Improvement and partnerships with families.

Completing the Family Inclusion in Children’s Learning session contributes 4 hours and 30 minutes of QTC Registered PD addressing 3.7.2 and 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Participants must attend the full session to be eligible for the accredited hours.
